Staying at the School House was like receiving a warm welcome home. There were sweet, thoughtful touches at every turn, and the house was very well equipped. We stayed over Christmas, and were greeted with festive gifts, treats and decorations.

A beautiful historic property lovingly maintained. We greatly enjoyed our five nights at this three bedroom property in November 2022. I enjoyed exploring the area on one of the provided bicycles. We also enjoyed building a fire, during a full moon, in the large outdoor fire pit.

The beds are supremely comfortable and the antique toaster was impressive! We hope to return in 2023. Thank you Joanne for making our stay special.

We had a lovely weekend as a group of 5 adults and 2 dogs at the School House. Check in was straight forward with excellent communication. The beds are very comfortable, kitchen is well stocked and our dogs loved the back garden. Would highly recommend!

The School House is lovely and very comfortable! Joanne has thought of everything you might need—and all the things you might forget! The outdoor space is lovely and scenic and the house is a close drive to all the great things to do in the County!

The School House was a fantastic PEC stay! The house is comfortable and charming with every detail thought out for you. We travelled with our dog and the fenced yard and dog treats were truly appreciated. The beds were extremely comfortable. We also loved the framed historical stories of the schoolhouse and students. We would love to come back. The location is ideal- very close to sandbanks and Picton – but a bit off the busy roads.

Joanne was an absolutely wonderful host. She was very quick with communications and incredibly helpful. She allowed us a very late check-out (9pm) with no hesitation so that we could go to the beach on our last day. Her place is also very well stocked with bikes, beach equipment, extra toiletries, a ton of games, and included a pass to sandbanks which was really nice. Joanne is amazing and we would love to come back and stay here many more times!

I read the previous reviews prior to booking and re-read prior to posting my own review – they don’t do justice to how wonderful Joanne is as a host and how well appointed this vacation home rental is for visitors.

I stayed at the School House for three (3) nights and wish I could have stayed longer. The house is stocked and decorated like no other vacation home rental you will ever experience. Joanne has considered every detail including those related to your dog. The kitchen has every physical item you could think of (e.g., tongs, colander, etc.). The bedrooms are cozy with wonderful linens – complete with towels rolled and waiting for you on the bed.

The School House is a 15 – 20 minute ride from anything you want to do in the region. Loved Flame & Smith, Kinsip, Stock & Row, Bermuda, Grange, and Fifth Town. This is definitely a home away from home, a must stay.

Excellent place, highly recommend! Joanne made us feel very at home and even left gifts for my friends young daughter and our dog.

The County School House was a delightful place to stay. Joanne is an impeccable host who takes care of every detail you could imagine and has superb taste. Her communication was prompt, thorough and friendly. The place is comfortable, cozy, clean and well stocked with anything you might need while away. It has great decor and beautiful history. The beds are super comfortable, and the bedding feels hotel-quality. In addition, it is a great location. We brought our two dogs with us for the long weekend, and they loved running around and playing in the big open field out back. We also had some great country road walks with them. We truly felt welcome, all the way down to some special treats left for us.

We were very happy with our stay at the Schoolhouse. It was a comfortable and relaxing environment. The pellet stove fire places made the stay that much more enjoyable as did the Christmas lights and decorations. We plan this type of trip yearly and never have we been in a home that had EVERYTHING! Part of our weekend adventure was to make our own pasta. We forgot a rolling pin. The Schoolhouse had it! We didn’t even think of bringing a strainer…the Schoolhouse had it. Tupperware for leftovers….the Schoolhouse had it! Extremely grateful to the owner for thinking of everything. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

The school house is a great location for any group heading to PEC!

The home is beautifully kept and decorated. The three bedrooms each have very comfortable beds with clean, good quality sheets.

The kitchen is super well stocked with everything you would need to prepare a meal. The washroom and laundry is perfect as well and it was great having access to a washer and dryer just in case.

We had a great time and can’t wait to go back!

Joanne’s place was very comfortable and well appointed. Everything we needed was there – it was super comfortable, impeccably clean, and well located. It is within walking distance of Lighthall Winery – which is one of our favourites! Thank you – we would definitely visit again.

Joanne surprised us with many generous gifts. Her place was decorated with fall decors. We could feel she put in a lot of effort to make us feel welcomed and comfortable. She placed a highchair in the dining room after hearing we had a toddler. We found essential toiletry items such as tooth brushes, shower caps, etc. in case we forgot to pack our own.

We didn’t know the original house was built about 150 years ago. It served as a one room school house for a hundred years. The original floor board was preserved, with burn marks from a wood burning stove in the old days. We appreciated reading the history of the place. It felt like time travelling. Maybe someone who was like Anne of Green Gables or Almanzo Wilder studied here?

There is a bedroom on the ground floor, my mom was glad to have it since she has knee problems. Two bedrooms on the second floor.

The house has a large yard. My children had a good time running around, catching frogs and crickets, and eating raspberries from bushes.

We all had a fabulous time. It was a nice getaway in the fall. We hope to visit again in the future.

The School House is a lovely property: extremely comfortable, impeccably clean, terrifically equipped and with lots of room for our group of five. Joanne is an amazing host – communication was easy and she is so thoughtful and accommodating. Highly recommended!!

My family and I had a wonderful weekend at the county school house home hosted by Joanne. It was refreshing to have a host and home that came as advertised. We enjoyed the full home in the late evening with games and the tele and the patio in the early am for breakfast and late afternoon wine and charcuterie. Our dog Pepper really enjoyed the large yard to run around. The home is well located to many vineyards and breweries that we have not been to. We had a great extended weekend. The home was clean and had all of the amenities required. Extra blankets ans pillows and a full kitchen. I would highly recommend Joanne’s home.

Great place to spend time with family. the backyard and balcony is really nice. 15min from sandbanks beach. Very clean and the host was always available for any questions.

Our two week stay was fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed having the County School House as our home-away-from home. We were delighted by the treats left for us – the gift basket with local items including wine and jams and local soda and other goodies in the fridge – as well as the very helpful guide to things to see, do and eat in the area. The basket of essentials for renters – toothbrush, toothpaste, bug spray and much more – in the bathroom is a great idea and one I haven’t seen with any other rental I’ve done. The house is very well stocked with all the dishware/cookware you will need plus plenty of staples including spices.

We found the wifi connection to be strong enough for concurrent Zoom calls (though it can get wobbly at time – you are in the country after all!). Dining al frecso on the wooden terrace was a treat and the solar powered lights which come on automatically about 20 minutes after sunset are a nice touch. Picton is only a short 15 minute drive away and there is a great bakery in nearby Milford you should definitely place an order with (pick ups on Saturdays). The house is air conditioned though the upstairs bedrooms don’t get very cool. Joanne was the perfect host – very communicative answering questions within minutes and truly wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend the County School House as the spot for a quiet getaway.

John, airbnb, June 2021

We had a lovely late fall weekend relaxing at Joanne’s place. The Schoolhouse was very cozy and comfortable, and the kitchen was well-appointed with all the tools we needed to cook. The beds were very comfortable and we enjoyed both the porch and the firepit out back.

Kallie, airbnb, November 2020

Charming, cozy house. What made all the difference was Joanne’s attention to detail – a very useful welcome pack with personal note, spare toiletries in the bathroom, high quality linens and towels, water bottles in the fridge, and the house was sparkling clean. Self check-in was a breeze – Joanne even left the porch light on for us for our late night arrival. Lovely property with great back deck.

Gillian, airbnb, November 2020

The County School House was everything we were hoping for and more when we got married in PEC this week. Joanne had added so many thoughtful touches that we and our friends were blown away by. The place is cozy and stylish with the perfect mix of living spaces and great outdoor areas. We have stayed in some great air bnbs but this is one of the first ones we will likely make a point to visit specifically again as it was just so perfect and holds some great memories for us now. Thank you so much Joanne!

Sydney, airbnb, September 2020

Elegant & charming old schoolhouse countryside property.

The schoolhouse is a beautiful property well-situated for all of the area activities but a quiet place to relax after a day at the beach. Large grounds with a vegetable garden, dining inside or out on the deck, watching the sunset & later stargazing before retiring to comfortable, well appointed bedrooms. A big plus was the pass to Sandbanks.

Maureen, VRBO, August 2020

Beautiful, quiet property with charming and well appointed home. Felt very welcome and comfortable with excellent beds and plenty of room for our family to spread out. Great WIFI connectivity and streaming options gave us down time after our days at the beach. Beautiful scenic drive to the Sandbanks and access to all the County has to offer. Joanne was a pleasure to communicate with and made sure we had everything we needed. We’ll return again!

Colin, VRBO, August 2020

The house was very pretty and clean. With many beds, its ideal for a family or a group of friends. Located in a rural area, it very quiet and there is a big backyard to play games or enjoy a campfire. We enjoyed the small touches like the welcoming note, board games available, and helpful essentials products. We strongly recommend the house for a beach getaway.

Killian, airbnb, June 2020

I highly recommend staying at the School House! Joanne, very welcoming and considerate, she is very quick to respond to any questions. The house was sparkling clean and well stocked with all the essentials. Joanne left a very thoughtful welcome basket that even included a treat for the kids. The fire pit was wonderful and the short drive to Sandbanks meant we were able to go back after dinner to enjoy the sunset on the beach. I will book again.
